The MTE Series represents a line of heavy-duty, externally geared slewing ring bearings engineered to deliver an optimal balance of economy and load capacity within a compact envelope dimension. Part of the broader MT Series, these bearings are a popular choice for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users seeking reliable rotation solutions for medium to heavy-duty applications
Designed as a direct and economical replacement for kingpost-style pivot designs, the MTE series utilizes a sophisticated four-point contact geometry. This design allows a single bearing to efficiently manage combined axial, radial, and moment loading, simplifying associated support structures
The MTE series is characterized by a rectangular cross-section available in a range of sizes, typically from 4 inches to 47 inches in outside diameter (approximately 100 mm to 1200 mm)
Internal Geometry:
At the core of the MTE bearing is its deep groove "Gothic arch" raceway design. This configuration, combined with a maximum ball complement, creates a four-point contact bearing. In this design, the balls contact the raceways at four distinct points, which provides exceptional stability and high load capacities-specifically moment, thrust, and radial loads-in a single bearing unit
Sealing & Protection:
To ensure longevity in harsh environments, the MTE series incorporates integral sealing:
Larger Sizes: Fitted with integral face-riding seals to actively exclude contaminants like dirt and debris.
Smaller Sizes: Equipped with non-contact shields to protect against larger particles while minimizing rotational torque
Pitch Diameters: Ball pitch diameters range from 9 inches to 40 inches, accommodating a wide variety of rotational requirements
Load Ratings: These bearings are built to handle substantial forces, with moment load ratings available up to 870,000 ft.-lbs.
Mounting: Mounting holes are provided in both inner and outer rings. Sizes with a "T" suffix (e.g., MTE-415T) indicate the presence of threaded mounting holes with a minimum thread depth of 1.5 times the nominal hole diameter, simplifying installation and eliminating the need for nuts on the backside
High-Capacity Variants: Certain part numbers ending in an "X" suffix are designed to offer additional load capacity beyond the standard configuration for that envelope size
Thanks to their robust design and versatility, Kaydon MTE series bearings are successfully utilized across a broad spectrum of industries. Their ability to handle combined loads makes them ideal for equipment requiring smooth, heavy-duty rotation
Typical applications include:
Light to Medium-Duty:
Manipulators
Jib cranes
Lift-assist devices
Work positioners
Heavy-Duty:
Truck-mounted cranes
Aerial lifts (e.g., cherry pickers, boom lifts)
Hoists
Small wind turbines
Non-precision industrial tables and positioners
